Internet banking: German customer numbers to overtake UK by 2006

9th June 2005

Internet banking has seen strong and steady customer growth since its inception. The UK and Germany in particular have seen considerable uptake of online banking but interestingly France, with a similar population to that of the UK, has not seen its market mature so quickly. In 2003, the UK internet banking market was the largest in Europe, ahead of Germany. However, forecasts suggest that by 2006, it is expected that Germany will have over 2 million more internet banking customers than the UK, which is a likely indication of the UK market beginning to saturate.
