UK wealth: high net worths account for just 2% of adult population

10th November 2005

High net worth (HNW) individuals account for a tiny proportion of the UK's adult population, with only 2% of the population holding onshore liquid assets worth more than GBP200,000. In comparison, mass affluent customers (those holding onshore liquid assets of between GBP30,000 and GBP200,000) accounted for 13.4% of the UK adult population in 2004. The remaining 84.6% of retail customers in the UK are those that hold less than GBP30,000 in liquid assets and are defined as mass-market individuals.
